Anna Brighton

As a Director, Power, Utilities and Infrastructure Investment Banking at RBC Capital Markets, Anna is known as a leader in financial advisory and in debt structuring across transportation, energy, utility and social infrastructure sectors. Her deep knowledge helped uncover opportunities, maximize return and provide expert advice for the winning clients for 15 infrastructure projects in Canada over the last 5 years with total valuation of $26.5 billion. Anna engaged in a myriad of volunteering activities, including serving as a mentor in multiple women organizations and at RBC.

Anna received a Bachelor of Commerce from York University with Summa Cum Laude and a Masters of Business Administration from Schulich School of Business with distinction. She also holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Anna received Women in Capital Markets’ Emerging Leader Award in 2019 and the Women’s Infrastructure Network’s Emerging Leader Award in 2020.

Indy Butany-Desouza

As VP, Regulatory Affairs, Indy has over 16 years of experience in the electricity sector in varied positions including strategy, rates, regulatory affairs, government relations, privacy, compliance, strategic business development, energy-related application projects, asset management, corporate planning, and finance.

 

Indy now leads the Regulatory Affairs department for the newly formed Alectra Utilities. She is a primary strategist behind developing policy positions for emerging issues from the OEB, MoE, and IESO. Indy led the submission of a Merger, Amalgamation, Acquisition and Divestiture (MAADS) Application for Alectra’s merger, the largest electricity utility consolidation in Ontario’s history.

 

Indy led the development of evidence for application filings and defense, and provided evidence as an expert witness during proceedings. Indy has previously held senior roles at Horizon Utilities, Carbon Capital Management, Direct Energy and EPCOR. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Strategy from McMaster University.

Nicolle Butcher

Nicolle has over 20 years of project experience across a wide range of projects including establishing a lease with British Energy for the Bruce Nuclear plant and development of the Portlands Energy Centre.  Nicolle currently is accountable for articulating OPG’s strategy and driving strategic initiatives aligned with the strategy.

 

Nicolle currently sits on the Board of Directors of Portlands. Nicolle holds a Bachelor and Master degree in Business Administration and is a Chartered Business Valuator. Nicolle earned a Certified Project Manager designation from Stanford University and has earned an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Reena Goyal

Reena is a lawyer at the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). At the IESO, Reena applies her expertise in energy law and regulation, including managing complex matters relating to electricity markets and long-term natural gas and renewable energy supply contracts.

 

Prior to joining the IESO, Reena was a litigation and dispute resolution lawyer for a number of years with two major national law firms, appearing before various provincial tribunals and all levels of court in Ontario. Reena has also completed her Master in Laws (LLM) in Energy and Infrastructure Law. Reena is a Steering Committee Members of WIECAN, a Board Member with Young Professionals in Energy and a member of the In-House Corporate Counsel Roundtable with the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Brittany Keenan is an Associate Partner in the Assurance Services practice of EY with over 15 years of experience auditing leading national and multi-national companies in the power & utilities, oil & gas and mining industries. 

 

Brittany is a Chartered Professional Accountant (formerly CA) with expertise managing complex accounting matters relating to electricity and renewable energy markets, such as power purchase agreements, business combinations, asset retirement obligations, regulatory assets & liabilities and oil & gas reserves.

Jennifer Manning

Mentoring Subcommittee

As General Counsel of NRStor Inc., a developer focused on accelerating the commercialization of renewable energy storage, Jennifer leads all legal, human resources and compliance-related matters. Her role spans a number of areas of the business, including leading the negotiation and drafting of key agreements, serving as Secretary on the Board of Directors and works with the business team to oversee the day-to-day operations of a project that provides frequency regulation service to Ontario’s electricity grid.

Suzanne Murphy

Suzanne Murphy is a partner in the Business Law Group in the Toronto office of McCarthy Tétrault LLP. Her practice is focused on private mergers and acquisitions, private corporate finance and general corporate matters, particularly in the power industry.  Suzanne regularly represents national and multinational corporations and venture capital investors. She has significant experience representing acquirers, investors and developers of a variety of power generation assets including natural gas, wind, solar, biomass and nuclear.  Suzanne is a member of the governing Board of Partners of McCarthy Tétrault LLP and a member of the Board of Directors of the McCarthy Tétrault Foundation.  Suzanne is listed in the current edition of the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as a leading lawyer in the area of Energy (Electricity).

Lynn Parsons

Lynn is a partner in McCarthy Tétrault LLP's Financial Services Group in Toronto. Her primary area of practice is project finance. She regularly advises financial institutions as well as borrowers in the development of and financing of projects in the energy, infrastructure and mining sectors. In addition, Lynn is a member of her firm's opinion committee.

 

She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002 and is listed as a leading lawyer in the area of Project Finance in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.‎ Lynn is a member of WIECAN's steering committee and sits on WIECAN's event planning, meeting and communications sub-committees.

Ella Plotkin

Ella Plotkin is a partner at the law firm Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP. Her practice focuses on banking and project finance transactions, project development and public private partnerships. Ella has considerable experience in energy and infrastructure development and finance as well as emerging markets project finance. Ella regularly advises lenders, developers and contractors on all aspects of projects and project finance in the infrastructure, energy, telecom and natural resource sectors.

 

Ella has been recognized by the "Guide to the World's Leading Lawyers", by Chambers, Who’s Who, IFLR’s "IFLR 1000" guide and by other publications as a leading lawyer in the area of project finance, and has been named by ROB/Lexpert in 2016 among Canada’s Leading Energy Lawyers.
